Kirrily Ackerman

Hello, my name is Kirrily!

I have been studying psychology for the last five years. Before that I went to a school in Toowoomba called Fairholme College. I am passionate about mental health, but I also have a keen interest in music. For a time I was training to be an opera singer before I went into psychology. My career aims are to work with adolescents in the mental health care sector. I also sing in choirs and I perform in musicals.

I’ve been told that I’m nurturing, warm, but also honest. I like to think of myself as independent and communicative, as well as enthusiastic and curious. I also have an interest in tiny houses and aim to have one myself in the future. I am currently studying a Psychology (Honours). I chose this degree because I have always thought mental health should be more prioritised in society and it’s something that I would love to help adolescents with as a career. My greatest strength is that I can think on my feet, thus making me a good problem solver. I’m able to get my work to the best standard it can be without giving up on it. I can also take failure and get up stronger. I feel that I am a great tutor because I’m good at pinpointing what a student needs to do well. I am encouraging and I’m great at translating teacher’s notes, task sheet rubrics, and scaffolds.
